Yixing Teapot Care Guide

Before first use

Rinse the teapot and lid thoroughly with hot water. A complicated seasoning ritual is optional, not required.

During brewing

Use the teapot for brewing tea only. Avoid direct flame, microwave ovens and sudden temperature changes. Pre-warm a cool teapot gradually before adding boiling water.

Cleaning after use

Empty the tea leaves promptly, rinse the pot and lid with clean warm or hot water, and avoid detergent, scented cleaners and dishwashers. Use a soft brush only when needed.

Drying and storage

Let the teapot and lid dry completely in a ventilated place. Store the lid slightly open or separately until the interior is dry.

Tea pairing

Some tea drinkers dedicate one unglazed teapot to a single tea family to keep aromas consistent. This is a preference rather than a requirement.

Mineral deposits

For light deposits, soak or rinse with warm water and use a soft cloth or brush. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and harsh chemicals.

Handle with care

Fired clay can chip or crack if dropped or struck. Hold the lid securely while pouring and place the teapot on a stable surface.
